Song is the medicine of broken heart. Various kinds of song have enriched our literature, tradition and culture. Folk songs play a great role in this respect. They express the smell of our soil. They express the inner feelings of our heart. Traditional songs are called folk songs. They are sung in the traditional style of a community or country. The traditional style means the themes, meaningful words and enchanting tunes of the songs that have existed for a long time among the common people. In Bangladesh, we have a rich history and collection of folk songs.
Palligiti, Bhatiali, Bhawaiya, Jari, Sari, Gambhira, Lalongity, Palagan and the songs of Hason Raja are very popular of them. Traditional musical instruments like dotara, ektara, tabla, sarinda, guiter, harmonium etc. are usually played with these. The people of rural areas like folk songs very much. Lalon, Bijoy Sarkar, Diron Chandra Lal, Farida Parveen, Kuddus Boyati, Chandana Majumdar and so on are our famous folk singers. In fine, it won’t be wrong if it is hoped that it is high time the Govt. took a pragmatic step as for the preservation of these songs.
