Introduction
Terrorism is the use of terror or violence (সন্ত্রাস) as a means of coercion (বলপ্রয়ােগ) for achieving some ideological goals, financial means or political power. Terrorists usually target civilians or disregard the safety of common people.
Definition
At present, there is no internationally agreed definition of terrorism. Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those violent acts which are intended to create terror, are carried out for attaining ideological goals, and deliberately target or disregard the safety of common people. Some definitions also include acts of unlawful violence and war.
Use of Terrorism
Terrorism has been practiced by a great number of political organizations for furthering (অগ্রসর করা) their goals. It has been practiced by both right-wing and left-wing political parties, nationalistic groups, religious groups, revolutionaries, and ruling governments. One form of terrorism is the use of violence against civilians for the purpose of gaining publicity for a group, cause, or individual
Terrorism in Bangladesh
We can often see the use of terrorism in Bangladesh. Every day, in newspapers, we find news of gangs and goons in the disguise of political parties creating terror among civilians to achieve their unlawful goals. Terrorism has spread even in educational institutions where it is used as a means of augmenting and exercising political influence.
Bad Impact of Terrorism
Terrorism creates insecurity among people. It also creates a severe negative impact on the social, economic and business environment of a country. It hampers educational activities and destroys the congenial environment in educational institutions. No society can prosper if terrorism is there.
Conclusion
No society or country should tolerate terrorism or let it reign (রাজত্ব করা, প্রভাব বিস্তার করা) over it. The mass people, legal system and Government should remain vigilant about that.
