Introduction
A teacher is one of the most important persons for the development of a society or a country. There is no doubt that education is the most important factor for the proper mental development of a person. Without proper education, a man cannot develop mentally and psychologically মনস্তাত্ত্বিকভাবে) in the proper way. It is the teacher who plays the most vital (গুরুত্বপূর্ণ) role in ensuring (নিশ্চিত করা) proper education for a person. In this way, what education a person will receive depends largely (প্রধানত) on the quality of teachers he gets.
Duties of a Teacher
The duties and responsibilities (কর্তব্য) of a teacher are many. The foremost (প্রধান) responsibility of a teacher is to make lessons attractive (আকর্ষণীয়) and retain (ধরে রাখা) the interest of the pupils (ছাত্র). For this purpose, a teacher should be well trained. In the school or educational institution, a student has to obey certain rules and regulations (নিয়ম-কানুন). Such things can create much pressure on a student. So, it is necessary for the teachers to make learning enjoyable so that the students will want to go to school in spite of the rules and regulations.
Besides, we can also see that a lot of students drop out of school every year as they dread (ভয় করে) their schools. This is mostly because they do not find schools interesting. If the teaching method and lessons are interesting such dropouts (ঝরে পড়া) can be prevented (রােধ করা যায়) to a great extent (বেশিরভাগ অংশ). It is also true that, nowadays, there are a lot of distractions (মনোযোগচ্যুতি) such as numerous (অসংখ্য) TV channels, computer games, interesting movies, narcotics (মাদক দ্রব্য), internet, mobile phone and many more. Such distractions tend to take away (সরিয়ে নিয়ে যায়) the attention of the students. So positive steps on the part of the teachers to make lessons engaging (আকর্ষণীয়) and enchanting (মুগ্ধকর) to the students are much required. Moreover, we can remember an interesting event or thing very easily and for a long period. Students also react (প্রতিক্রিয়া ব্যক্ত করা) to an interesting lesson the same way. Such interesting lessons and teaching methods can improve the performance of the students to a great extent.
Qualities of a Teacher
There are certain qualities a teacher needs to possess. The most important of them is to have good education. If the teacher does not have adequate education he cannot be expected (আশা করা) to impart (বিতরণ করা) proper education. He should have a true love for learning so that he could instigate (জাগিয়ে তোলা) that love among his students. He should also be patient as a lot of patience is needed for grooming (সজ্জিত করা) a student with knowledge.
Conclusion
It can be said that, at present, due to a tremendous (বিশাল) improvement of science, many tools (যন্ত্রপাতি) and techniques (কৌশল) are available to the teachers to make the lessons interesting. Teachers can easily use those methods (পদ্ধতি).
